A Very Sad and Scary Day for All
Today we were forced to make one of the hardest and at the same time most obvious decisions in nearly forty years of trading. We closed our doors the the public in an effort to reduce social interaction. For a couple of weeks the government has been asking us all to follow social distancing restrictions in the hopes of reducing the spread of the Corona Virus. Unfortunately not everyone was heeding the advice and we like many other local businesses were terrified by the sheer volume of holiday makers that came to Cornwall in their thousands. Unprepared and nervous to be in such close proximity to so many people, we felt for the safety of our staff and valued customers that we needed to close. This decision was made in conjunction with all the other bike hires on the trail who were also having a similar experience.
We would like to make clear that the closure of the bike hire is 100% a safety precaution and although we know many people will be disappointed, particularly our regular visitors, we could not in all conscience be encouraging tourism at a time when we should be encouraging people to stay home. The local community was sent into panic at the possible mass spread of the virus in an area so ill equipped to deal with the consequences and as part of that community for many years we would not be part of the cause of this concern.
Our decision to close was closely followed over the next couple of days by many local businesses and on Monday evening Boris Johnson announced tougher measures to restrict all but essential movement for key workers and supplies.
