Camel Trail Lockdown 2021
We welcome in 2021 with the Countries third lockdown. As Covid cases soared here in Cornwall at the start of the Christmas holidays Bernie and I took the decision to close our doors in an attempt to keep both ourselves, our staff and our community safe. Unfortunately it didn't help and within two weeks our numbers, along with many other parts of the country, went from below fifty to over 300 cases.
A national lockdown was announced on the 5th January which has seen the closure of all but vital services, of which bike hire is not one in this area and therefore all bike hires on the Camel Trail have closed until further notice.
We believe this is the right decision and hope that numbers begin to reduce soon enabling us, and the rest of the country, to get back to a more 'normal' life. In the meantime I am doing my best to get out, on a daily basis, where weather permits, to ensure that all those who are missing home, their Cornish break or those who just need a boost, a reminder of what's waiting for us all when this is over, have a nice picture of the trail each day to help keep their spirits up. I'll also continue to plant up the various areas around the depot and town, including the roundabouts, to keep things looking colourful and hopefully bring some joy into peoples lives. I'll look after the new seating area I created during the first lockdown which I know many locals are enjoying. A beautiful place to sit and relax which we've now made accessible for wheelchairs (hopefully!). Mostly I'll look forward to me and all the other older folk getting their jabs so that we can see family and friends again, eventually getting back to a life where we can enjoy each others company and welcome visitors with a smile.
